It seems 2012 is the Year of Benedict Cumberbatch.

MajorSpoilers.com carried over a Variety story reporting that BBC‘s current Sherlock has joined Noel Clarke in signing on to Star Trek 2.

I decided to check the IMDB profile for some confirmation (no update as of this post) but discovered just how many projects are slated for this year, including:

  • A production of Frankenstien as The Creature
  • Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy as Peter Guillam
  • War Horse as Maj. Jamie Stewart
  • A character named David in the movie Wreckers
  • Sherlock (of course)
  • and the Voice of Smaug for The Hobbit movies
I worry that he is going to get burned out, but as long as he keeps putting out Sherlock-caliber performances we can at least enjoy him for a time!

A Post Full of Sherlock

In the last day I’ve seen more Sherlock Holmes than is normally right to.

Last night I had the treat of seeing Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.  Without too much detail, it was enjoyable but falls to the curse of the sequel, being that it does not measure up to the first in the series, in my opinion.

Something that I cannot say about the newest episode of Sherlock, Series 2.  For those that enjoyed Series 1, you’ll be happy to know that we pick up right where we left off at the end of last episode.  Boy, that Moriarty is a cheeky monkey!

Far cheekier than the version of the Professor in the movie.  I think compared side by side, I like the BBC Series much better.  I mean, I like a Guy Ritchie film as much as the next . . . guy, but I also like my Sherlock a bit brainier and repressed, and not so much punch-happy and Hollywood.

Moriarty was not the only thing these to shows had in common.  They also feature the character of Irene Adler, though there was more Ms. Adler in the first Ritchie film of the franchise.  Again, I have to vote the BBC Series version of “The Woman” up in my favor due to the sheer fun and sexiness of their interpretation.  Laura Pulver played an excellent foil to Benedict Cumberbatch’s consulting detective.

We get 2 more episodes in Series 2, making for 6 episodes in total.  If you can get at them, I highly recommend them!

What did you think of these shows?

Outrage! Torchwood to have US/UK Versions! WTF?! [Torchwood]

US to get 'altered' episodes – Thanks!

Sci-fi News website io9.com has just reported that the new series of  Torchwood will have different versions for the US and the UK.  According to the article (linked below), some considerations are on running times while others are on content, both cultural and ‘Mature’ material.

Hey, BBC and Starz, listen up!  I don’t want to chase two versions of your show!  I want what is considered Original and not re-packaged!  My bet is that the BBC will have what I am after.  So that’s where I’m going to go to get it!

Here’s that article.  Leave a comment below if you see this pop up elsewhere!
